Chocolate Mousse

Instructions for chocolate mousse

Place a small pot on the stove and add half of the heavy cream to it. Bring it up to a simmer while keeping the heat on the low side. Take it off the heat as soon as it reaches the desired temperature.

Put the chocolate that has been chopped into a basin that can withstand heat. After adding the vanilla, pour the warm cream over the chocolate and mix it together. After allowing the chocolate to melt for a minute, stir it with a whisk until all of the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth and thoroughly blended.

Ingredients for chocolate mousse:

  • a quantity equal to 2 cups of heavy cream at room temperature
  • 1 ounce of chocolate * See additional remarks
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate mousse mixture:

Mix in the rest of the cream using a whisk. The addition of this cold cream helps bring the temperature of the mixture down more quickly. Cover and place in the refrigerator for at least two hours before serving. Remove it from the refrigerator once it has reached the desired temperature.

Be careful not to overmix the chocolate cream as you whip it with an electric hand mixer until it forms stiff peaks. The mousse should be divided between four large bowls or eight smaller bowls.

Notes for chocolate mousse:

Sugar-free chocolate chips or your favourite chocolate bar, broken up and sprinkled on top.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR STORAGE: Mousse must be kept in the refrigerator at all times and must be completely covered so that no moisture may get inside. The mousse can remain fresh for up to two weeks if stored properly.

IF YOU WANT TO FREEZE IT: If you put the chocolate mousse in a container that can be frozen, you can store it in the freezer for up to six months. Defrost the mousse in the refrigerator for a full 24 hours.
